NHI / Medical Insurance

◉Coverage requirements

Foreign Students are required to have sufficient medical and accident coverage for the first six months or the semester they stay in Taiwan. Foreign Students that applied for resident visa have to get insurance covering the first months of their stay. After legal residents for full six months, foreign students will be transferred to national health insurance. Students that only stay for one semester need to check whether the domestic insurance covers any cost made in Taiwan.

◉Insurance Fee’s

All enrolled students are mandatory to join in the student safety insurance. The insurance fee will be included in the registration fee payment.
Besides, foreign students will join the medical insurance operated by Cathay Life Insurance for the first six months, the fee is NT$3,000 (NT$500 a month).

* Before getting NHI card (with Cathay Life Insurance), if you go to a hospital or clinic to see a doctor, you need to ask the doctor for the "DIAGNOSIS" and "RECEIPT", then apply for reimbursement at OIA.

* Reimbursable amount:
- The maximum per subject is NTD 1,000 in one day.

*Please bring your ARC, passport, student card, bank book, diagnosis, receipt!

The National Health Insurance Act stipulates that foreign nationals who are legal residents of Taiwan must enroll in the National Health Insurance program upon living in Taiwan for 6 months.
(6 months of continuous residence in Taiwan or with one trip abroad not exceeding 30 days when the actual residency period of 6 months is reached after the days abroad have been deducted).
